The story behind this photo is actually quite funny. I came across Vladimir’s Palace and decided to go in, unknowing that it’s not open for public tours (there was no info online!) and is actually known as the ‘Academics House’. I knocked on the door and was let in by 3 elderly women (who did not speak a word of English). The entire palace was quiet and empty, and there I was asking (in very poor Russian) to take a quick look and a few photos. Totally lost in translation for 20 minutes, the women gave up on explaining the situation and very kindly proceeded to show me around. So there I stood, center stage in the music hall, on a private tour around Vladimir’s Palace. – #empiretraveller #EmpireTravelsSaintPetersburg
