French architect Jacques Couëlle designed this hillside villa in 1961, originally drafting it for the Aga Khan. It sits within the Castellaras estate, between Mougins and Valbonne in southern France. And it’s currently listed with Patrice Besse for €2.75m.

Built on former agricultural terraces below the estate’s château, the house follows the hillside through rounded volumes, thick plaster walls and arched openings. Its terracotta roofs sit at different heights, with terraces overlooking the Provençal hills and Mediterranean.

Inside, a white spiral staircase rises through the double-height living room. A small library occupies the space beneath its curved structure, with shelves following the shape of the wall. A fireplace is sculpted into the plasterwork. Dark slate floors contrast with the white walls and cylindrical columns.

The house extends across three levels, with bedrooms opening onto private terraces. One occupies a rounded, tower-like volume, while an exterior staircase leads to a rooftop terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Outside, stone paths wind between olive trees, cypresses and oleanders planted across the former agricultural terrain. Residents share two swimming pools, four tennis courts and a gym.
