A three-storey micro home has popped up on a pavement near London’s Old Street as part of London Design Festival – and it’s up for auction.

The ‘Living Unit’ was designed by OFIS Arhitekti and engineers AKT II as a prototype modular home suitable for a variety of terrains. Its basic unit (2.5m wide, 4.5m long and 2.7m high) includes accommodation – a kitchenette, toilet, bed and seating – and it can be stacked horizontally or vertically to expand living space.

Those interested in sampling micro living can explore the triplet tucked beside the White Collar Factory and negotiate its wooden ladders to reach the kitchen, living area and two bedrooms.

The timber frame structure – reinforced with Plywood boards – was first shown during Milan Design Week, then Ljubljana Castle before making its way to London. AKT II has donated the tiny home to the Architecture Foundation, which is auctioning it via eBay as a fundraising drive.

Bids start from £5,000 and close on 27 September.
