A row of Margate beach houses designed by Guy Holloway Architects have gone on sale, offering views of the same seaside sunsets that inspired artist JMW Turner’s paintings.

Each two-bedroom home is made from larch wood and has a terrace looking onto the Channel, whose reflections of light at dusk and dawn are depicted in several works by Turner.

Inside the two-storey properties, the ground floor comprises an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area as well as a bedroom. A spiral staircase leads up to a master en-suite bedroom.

‘I grew up and live locally so the regeneration of Margate is very close my heart,’ said architect Guy Holloway. ‘Here, we wanted to create the ultimate beach hut for 21st-century living; architecturally our open-plan design allows for flexible spaces that are ideal for the modern family.’

The development is the latest sign of Margate’s regeneration. Holloway worked with designer Wayne Hemingway to restore Dreamland Pleasure Park, which reopened last year. The Turner Contemporary art gallery – designed by Sir David Chipperfield – was inaugurated back in 2011.

Each beach house is available via Strutt & Parker for offers in the region of £485,000.
