Live in a Kengo Kuma original in a Japanese forest
It comes dressed to the nines
A house designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates has come to market in Karuizawa, in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture. Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing, and is asking ¥1.6 billion.
Completed in 2016, the two-storey house stands among mature trees on a 2,465sqm site. A timber-lined pitched roof stretches beyond walls of glass, its exposed rafters continuing from the rooms to deep overhanging eaves. From the main living space, glazing rises into the gable and looks directly into the surrounding woodland.
The main house spans 240 square metres and is built from reinforced concrete and steel. Three smaller single-storey buildings are spread across the grounds.
The property is around 6.5 kilometres from Karuizawa Station and 2.5 kilometres from Naka-Karuizawa Station. It sits within grounds managed by Hoshino Resorts.
Sasazawa Construction and Sato Landscaping worked on its construction. The house is currently used as a holiday home, and the artworks, furniture and fixtures shown at the property are included in the sale.
