This timber-clad house treads lightly on its nature reserve surroundings – just southwest of Chile’s capital Santiago.

Set in the Coastal Mountain Range of Chile, the Chilean property was designed by studio GITC and constructed on an eroded site to avoid destroying natural vegetation and tread lightly on the site.

Casa El Maqui has a concrete box-like base with an overhanging top floor, which connects to a suspended rectangular box. Volumes are orientated to capture views down a verdant valley through a glazed opening.

It is for sale via Chile Sotheby’s International Realty for £845,720 and the land surrounding the home has been replanted with gardens and a sunken pond to support the local ecosystem.
