Owners of a £1.5m, seven-acre country retreat on the Scottish island of Arran are raffling it off for £55 per ticket.

‘We got the idea after hearing about the Beitz family in Australia that was giving away their estate in Micronesia this way,’ says proprietor James Clark, an ex Army medic.

Proceeds from the raffle of the Balmichael Centre resort, near Shiskine, will go to US-based international disaster response charity, Boots on the Ground.

Arran is famed for its rugged landscape, pristine beaches and wildlife. Winners of the raffle will get a house on the island with beach views, as well as a cache of commercial buildings, a 42-seat cinema, coffee shop, gym, adventure playground, ice rink and go karting course.

Currently run as a debt-free seasonal business, the estate’s new owner can keep it, run it, rent or sell it under the terms of the competition. And you don’t have to be a UK resident to enter.

The Scottish Island Dream Estate Raffle launched on 1 October, and there’s still plenty of time to enter with the winning ticket being drawn in June 2017.
