Visitors to Luis Vuitton’s Fifth Avenue store in New York will notice a towering colourful addition to the building’s facade…

Marking the launch of Virgil Abloh’s debut SS19 collection as men’s artistic director for the brand, Louis Vuitton has installed a 12-storey-high ‘optical illusion’ in its windows showing a technicolour model standing inside a box.

Abloh’s collection is inspired by 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz, and the windows of the store – and its Rodeo Drive counterpart – also feature psychedelic skies, the yellow brick road and fields of trippy flowers.

Over in Japan, things get even more surreal: a crouching version of the artwork appears to burst through the floor of Tokyo’s Harajuku Station.
