Set on an organic farm on Sauvie Island, this guesthouse is a small slice of rural life in Oregon.

Tu Casa is part of Island Farm Retreat and though it’s just 15 minutes from downtown Portland, it is surrounded by trees and open fields and has been designed to make the most of its setting. Big windows bring in natural light while guests can have breakfast or dinner on the covered patio.

Interiors of the one-bed guesthouse – available to rent via Airbnb from £77 per night – are modern rustic, with lights designed by Schoolhouse.

As well as wandering sheep and cows from the surrounding farm, visitors can expect to see migrating birds, and views to St Helens and the Cascade Range. Late sleepers should prepare themselves for the dawn chorus from the farm’s rooster, while the nearby barn – designed by architect Yianni Doulis – is used as a workshop and seasonal produce stall.
