Manuel Aires Mateus rethinks the ‘country house’ in rural Melida. This monolithic concrete structure was inspired by traditional Alentejo architecture evoking the outlines of barns and agricultural store sheds. Formerly a holiday home, it is an hour drive south of Lisbon and sits within 17 acres of olive, lemon, and orange groves. An 18-metre swimming pool with views over the surrounding landscape also sits within its grounds.
