Formaje is a ‘temple of cheese’ in Madrid

Opening its doors in 2020 in Madrid’s Chamberí district, Formaje is a minimalist culinary space that elevates handmade cheese to cult status.

Formaje is not only a shop but also a place to enjoy and share the artisanal product in serene surrounds.

Spanish practice Cobalto Studio devised the interior design with natural raw materials, such as granite and wood, creating a simple and minimalist environment. Cheese, imagined as a noble yet democratic product, is centre stage and is visually elevated in shelves along the high, sandy-coloured walls, which welcome customers into the warm and bright space which echoes the product’s creamy tones.
