Bali retreat Awarta Nusa Dua Luxury Villas & Spa has been named ‘the best hotel in the world’ for 2018.

The Boutique Hotel Awards singled out the complex from a long list of 300 entrants, picking it for its architecture and amenities. Awarta comprises 14 private villas, each of which has teak and rosewood interiors and vast openings that spill out onto terraces and plunge pools surrounded by greenery.

Amenities at the boutique Bali hotel – whose villas start from €353 per night – include Bulgari bathing facilities and guests can dine at Awarta’s two restaurants – The Long Table (which serves Balinese cuisine) and Ru Yo (offering Chinese cuisine). They scooped it the award for ‘World’s Best Culinary Hotel’.

Elsewhere, Amsterdam’s Hotel TwentySeven was named the ‘Best design inspired hotel’ and Akademie Street in Franschhoek, South Africa, was named ‘most romantic.’
