Prada tapped artist Theaster Gates to create a site-specific installation for its inaugural Prada Mode event at Art Basel Miami Beach this week.

Combining art, music, dining and conversations, the nomadic club runs through until 6 December. For his intervention, Gates has picked up the thread from Fondazione Prada show in Milan, ‘The Black Image Corporation’, which draws on images from Chicago’s Johnson Publishing Company – owners of Jet and Ebony.

Gates has used the building’s walls as a gallery for black and white portraits of African American models and personalities published in the magazines. The space is hosting talks and performances by Gates’ band – he’s also curating music on the club’s last day.
