#Auctionwatch: A 1959 travel trailer is coming up for auction, and its aluminium exterior hides a wealth of midcentury style.

The one-bedroom mobile home is a Spartan Imperial Mansion model, created by the Spartan Trailer Company and recognised as the top end of midcentury trailers. It might be over 60 years old, but the home was given a complete interior renovation in 2018, and a fresh set of wheels and polish last year as well – so its reflective metal exterior is gleaming.

Inside, the 47-foot long trailer is decked out in period furniture and details including an Eames rocker, walnut cabinets and a wooden bathtub. While it cost just under $7,000 when it debuted in the 1950s, the mobile home is expected to attract bids of $125,000 and upwards when it goes under the hammer on 22 January 2021 at RM Sotheby’s.
