The Campervan Raptor XC tear-drop camper looks small at first glance, but with a flick of the wrist, it expands to accommodate a family of four.

The aluminium ‘transformer’ trailer is by German company Hunter Nature. It expands from a compact 15.7-ft to 22.6 ft thanks to a slide-out bedroom area – complete with overhead storage and windows – that folds from the living room. This can be controlled manually, or via a remotely-operated motor system, depending on the model, which starts from around $43,900.

The caravan weighs in at 1260 kg and is designed to be towed by 4×4 off-roaders. A layer of XPS insulation keeps its minimalist, all-white cabin cosy, whatever the climate and an independent suspension system and all-terrain tires with custom alloys are designed for the bumpiest of dirt roads.

Other features include solar panels, a ‘star-gazing’ skylight roof and fully equipped kitchenette with a 75l fridge and gas stove, and a wet bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower.
