14 April 2020: Black Rock City will go unbuilt this year, as Burning Man is cancelled for the first time in 34 years.

The annual arts festival was due to take place in the Nevada desert from 30th August to 7th September, but is the latest casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic – which has seen events across the world put on hold to try and halt the spread of the virus.

While Burning Man’s organisers say they are heartbroken by the decision, they plan to host a virtual version of the festival – which ties neatly into this year’s Multiverse theme. Details around the digital gathering are still being ironed out, but will be announced in due course.
