Twelve ultra-minimal concrete casitas nestle into the desert at this Texas retreat, which is situated to make the most of views over the Chisos Mountain Range.
There are 250 acres of land for guests to explore at Willow House, with Big Bend National Park a six-mile hike away. The single-storey concrete cabins might look severe, but there’s still plenty of creature comforts inside, including rain showers, air conditioning and daybeds. Each home relies on a nearby solar pump-powered well for water.
A contemporary example of desert modernism, the Texan huts were designed with the landscape in mind, and Willow House’s owners have focused on natural textures and locally sourced materials. Walls and pathways have been laid out using nearby rocks, while shade comes via fronds of ocotillo branches, collected from the surrounding land.
Guests can cook together in the communal kitchen, or make the trek to one of the restaurants within a three-mile radius. Casitas – and the entire complex – can be booked via Willow House directly with price on application.
