Artist Shay Docking’s Sydney home will go up for auction next week, with a guide price of $2.3m.

The Australian landscape painter shared the the property on Paddington’s Cambridge Street with her husband Gil Docking until her death in 1998, and bequeathed it to the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It is now seeking a new owner to give it a refresh.

Though the four-bedroom terrace will need an overhaul, it features a wealth of period features including exposed brick walls and fireplaces, hardwood floors and tall, moulded ceilings throughout. It also has a mezzanine loft – an ideal studio space – and upper-level sun deck with ornate Victorian balcony railings and views across the city.

For a buyer with vision, the house could be opened up and reconfigured to make the most of its floor plan, especially in the kitchen and dining areas.
