Via Finques Frigola

You’ll need a head for heights to live in this Modernist clifftop villa, designed by Antoni Bonet Castellana in the 1970s.

On the market via Finques Frigola for €5.8m, the Costa Brava property perches on a rocky outcrop and is staggered over three levels, bedding into its dramatic cliffside plot.

The Calella property has a hefty cantilevered flat roof which echoes the contours of its setting while curving windows add a geometric twist and frame panoramic views of the sea.

Interiors are near original, with vaulted stucco ceilings and white-washed walls, as well as 1970s tiling and cabinetry (which could use a spruce in spots). Bonet Castellana installed floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the 767 sqm house as well as a number of outdoor terraces that fold off the living room and kitchen at the front of the property.

Seven bedrooms are tucked into the lower levels of the Modernist house, while landscaped gardens and a swimming pool can be found at the rear. Stone walls and lush trees surround the property, shielding its inhabitants from view.

Castellana worked alongside Le Corbusier in Paris in the 1930s and designed a number of residential properties in the area, but he’s best known for designing the iconic Butterfly Chair.
