Monastic interiors at Toronto’s Osteria Giulia put focus on the food

A simple but elevated dining experience

Soft honey tones and layered textures create the calming backdrop for Toronto restaurant Osteria Giulia in the city’s Yorkville neighbourhood.

Helmed by chef Rob Rossi, Osteria Giulia is conceived as the older sister to cult local restaurant Giulietta. Interiors hone a simpler, more mature vibe, with architect Guido Costantino implementing a tactile and monastic material palette to heighten the sense of confidence emanating from Rossi’s kitchen.

Curved limestone walls cross the dining room, while a ‘folded ceiling’ creates dining coves for patrons, enclosed by wool panelled walls that dampen sound and insert softness into the minimalist dining space.

Fin walls and plump lighting pendants are unfussy but elegant and add visual complexity to the otherwise spartan Toronto space, which is furnished with curved-back wooden chairs and simple honey-coloured tables.
