The Malin takes up residence inside a Brutalist Williamsburg landmark

Bold bones are softened by texture and colour

The Malin has opened its first office outside of Manhattan, creating a refined, home-away-from-home atmosphere for its Williamsburg members.

This latest coworking hub is located on the 9th floor of Brooklyn’s William Vale building – a striking, Brutalist structure designed by Albo Liberis that is already home to a hotel. Fettle Design collaborated with The Malin’s own designers to shape the interiors, which work as a foil to the concrete walls and the imposing New York skyline beyond.

Texture, patterns and colour play a critical role across the interiors of the New York coworking space, where memberships start from $495 a month.

Fettle has deftly layered fabrics and finishes, picking out velvet sofas, chevron-covered curtains, marble tabletops and theatrical seating areas to add a sense of drama to the space. Counters and individual workspaces are designated via bright, graphic rugs – many of them juxtaposing the building’s sweeping views of the city.

Members have access to all of the above, as well as private offices and shared desks, which still have a sense of privacy thanks to wooden table dividers inset with fluted glass. There’s also a library with plenty of deep, plush seating for those seeking total silence and deep concentration.
