A flower-like seaside home by organic architecture maverick Kendrick Bangs Kellogg has hit the market in California for $2.5m.

Lotus House is a curvilinear sculptural dwelling built in 1978 on the rim of Pottery Canyon in La Jolla. It is constructed from Douglas fir beams that were steamed into shape to create the house’s curved, cavernous interior spaces, which look like a rib-cage.

A central atrium anchors the 3,379 sq ft Californian property – on the market via Lisa Henderson and James Longley of the Berkshire Hathaway Home Services – with floor-to-ceiling glass peeking out across the Pacific Ocean. The living room features a colossal poured concrete hearth which dominates the space.

Elsewhere, three bedrooms fan out like petals from this space, and the unique property has a number of outside terraces.
