Miami meets Memphis at Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel

Miami modernism and the Memphis Group unite inside the Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel – a new haunt putting art at the fore.

Sitting in the island’s San Antonio Bay, the 60-room bolthole is part of the Concept Hotel Group, and has brightly coloured interiors by practice Ilmio Design.

The hotel’s curvy Art Deco-style façade features a pair of vertical pink fan tails that look like they are straight out of South Beach. Curving forms and candy colours continue inside the flamingo pink lobby, where guests will find an undulating, sunken seating area. Neon tube lighting hangs from the ceiling above the aqua-blue-tiled reception desk, set with a wavy Memphis-style motif that recurs across the hotel’s interiors. Throughout Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel, walls are hung with pop art, curated by artists Iñaki Domingo and Diana Kunst.

‘We haven’t just added the words “art hotel” to the name just by hanging art in the rooms, like other hoteliers do,’ says Concept Group’s CEO Diego Calvo. ‘We’ve created a constantly changing art calendar.’

Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel houses an art gallery, which is open to guests and the public, as well as an art residency programme dubbed ‘Zero Suite’ residencies. Creatives are housed in a transparent ‘micro workstation’ cube in the lobby where they can work and live for free – in exchange for putting their practice on show, and taking over the hotel’s social media channels.

Elsewhere in the Ibiza hotel, there’s a library stacked with books on contemporary art, an outdoor cinema, and a tattoo studio for guests who want to leave with a permanent memento of their stay.

Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel’s private guest bedrooms are no less colourful than the lobby, and continue the 1970s theme with bursts of yellow, pink and green. Conceived as an extension of the gallery space, they are hung with a changing display of artworks, while the furniture pays homage to the bold shapes and playful nature of Ettore Sottsass’ Memphis designs.

But the piece-de-resistance is the hotel’s rosy-hued swimming pool and lavender tropical garden, which is on point for the Instagram age.
