A clever East London loft offers industrial bones and modern design

Built-ins by Studio James Stickley and sleek materials elevate the space

Candy colours infuse the interiors of this loft in East London, which sits atop a converted sweet factory in Forest Gate.

Though compact at just 1,000 sq ft, the Vineyard Studios apartment offers plenty of height and light, with expansive windows peering across the neighbouring rooftops. Its floor plan has been maximised to the full by Studio James Stickley, with a colourful custom kitchen inserted into the L-shaped plan beneath the mezzanine. Entirely custom, it features cobalt blue, black, peach and grey cabinets made from Valchromat, while the worktops are sheet form stainless steel, and the flooring is concrete grey Marmoleum.

The island is cut into a playful shape – one of several custom designs by Stickley for the space, as well as a stepped seating area made from lightweight breeze blocks that elevate seating to window level for people-watching.

A bespoke milled staircase connects to the mezzanine level, where the bedroom is located, peering over the living room below. Meanwhile, a workstation has been installed at the base of the stairs, delineating between work and place.

Story of Home is listing the one-bedroom apartment for £399,950.
