The award-winning Y House is up for sale in Los Angeles’s Venice

Architectural duo Cigolle X Coleman designed the award-winning Y House in Los Angeles’s bohemian Venice neighbourhood as their own live/work space – and the sculptural property is now for sale at $2.6m.

Y House at 528 Grand Boulevard is one of three houses designed by the pair, all located on the same block in Venice and recipients of the AIA 2020 Merit Award for Residential Architecture. Y House cuts a striking figure from the road, with its corrugated steel fencing, ribbon-shaped window and abundance of greenery.

The two-bedroom Los Angeles property was designed around its monumental steel switchback staircase, which was fabricated as a single piece. Polished concrete floors are offset by unexpected raw plywood ceilings, while wraparound windows reveal the home’s oasis-like garden.

As well as two bedrooms, the property has a top-floor studio, currently used by the architects as an office, as well as a rooftop deck with views over the city and Santa Monica Mountains. Compass has the listing.
