Need more room to throw some shapes? Or practice your pirouettes? This fresco-filled dance and yoga studio in Umbria could be the ideal bolt-hole.

Taking up the piano nobile (first floor) of a palazzo in the centre of medieval hilltop town Orvieto, the Umbrian apartment is currently used as a full time rehearsal space for dance, theatre performance and exercise, but it could be easily converted back to residential use.

Its voluminous rooms feature frescoed ceilings and walls, as well as tiled floors and carved wooden doors. The stand out space however is the double-height reception room: its walls are decorated idyllic pastoral scenes, framed by Roman colonnades and draped curtains – and there’s even room for a grand-piano.
