‘Majesty and elegance’ are the order of the day at Rosewood Munich

The grand stone exterior of this Munich hotel gives way to an equally imposing set of interiors by Tara Bernerd & Partners.

Located in a pair of landmark buildings in the city’s old town, Rosewood Munich seeks to create the atmosphere of an aristocratic residence. That means marble, dark wood bookshelves, columns and statement light fittings that ‘inject some of the building’s majesty and elegance into the interior design, with a contemporary twist’, according to Bernerd.

Guests enter a grand lobby, which retains many traces of its former life as a bank, including vaulted ceilings and frescoes. The design team has installed elegant armchairs and footstools, many next to windows overlooking the hotel’s leafy courtyard.

The guest rooms are a touch more muted, painted in shades of grey and green with the odd flash of mustard yellow. Those looking for a bit more drama can book into the König Maximilian I House suite, which has deep velvet armchairs and sofas arranged around a fireplace, a dining table with room for ten and its own courtyard terrace.

Evening dinner and cocktails are on offer at hotel brasserie Cuvilliés, which promises Alpine-inspired food served in an elegant dining room that’s filled with marble-topped tables and vintage-style green dining sofas. Rooms start at around €800 per night.
