La Granja Ibiza is a rustic new members retreat on a farm

Design Hotels have opened a bucolic members retreat on the island of Ibiza that swaps all-night raves for meditation, farming workshops and yoga classes.

La Granja Ibiza is the first members-only ‘experiment’ from the boutique hotel booking site, set amid 10 hectares of biodynamic orchards and pine groves. Designer Armin Fischer of Dreimeta Design Studio has converted the 200-year-old farmhouse into a 9-room hideaway, with a separate two-bedroom guesthouse.

A dark palette of burnt wood, stone and slate provides a moody counterpoint to the typical white-washed villas on the island. Textures are rough and deliberately imperfect.

‘Using flawed and scarred materials and surfaces, we’ve alluded to the enigma of time passing,’ says Fischer.

La Granja Ibiza’s ‘enlightened communal programme’ of rituals includes ‘sound baths’, group meditation and ‘farmer’s conviviums’, where special guests – including artists, innovators, farmers and activists – are invited to share knowledge. Guests can also enjoy daily sunset DJ sets by the pool.

Rituals of the culinary kind come courtesy of chef José Catrimán, whose slow food menu draws from the bounty of the surrounding land.

Would-be guests can gain one-time access to La Granja’s facilities or, for unlimited access, can apply to become a member for the seasonal fee of €200.

La Granja Ibiza is a collaboration between Design Hotels and Friends of a Farmer, a group that promotes sustainable farming, as well as art and music ventures that cultivate the ‘inner garden’ – as they put it.
