Designed by Robin Boyd in 1969 and recently restored, Night Sky centres on a soaring brick vault topped by a retractable oculus that opens to the southern night sky. The three-bedroom house was conceived around passive solar principles and sits within a bushland setting in the Blue Mountains.

Vista House by Peter Stutchbury, Paynes Crossing, NSW

Peter Stutchbury designed Vista House for a 49-hectare property in the Lower Hunter Valley. Completed in 2017, the three-bedroom off-grid home combines rammed earth, recycled brick and a floating ARAMAX roof, with a series of courtyards and outdoor rooms arranged around the surrounding landscape.

Mudbrick House by Alistair Knox, Research, Victoria

This four-bed mudbrick house sits on more than an acre of bushland in Melbourne’s northeast. Exposed timbers, redbrick floors and vaulted ceilings define the Alistair Knox interiors, while a self-contained cottage, pool and studio occupy the grounds.

Fingal House by Denton Corker Marshall, Cape Schanck, Victoria

Positioned within the National Golf Club estate at Cape Schanck, Fingal House was designed by Denton Corker Marshall and received the Robin Boyd Award for Residential Architecture. The four-bedroom residence sits above the landscape, with views extending across the golf course, coastal vegetation and Port Phillip Bay.

St Andrews Beach House by Sean Godsell Architects, Victoria

Completed in 2005, St Andrews is one of Sean Godsell’s best-known residential projects. Wrapped in a perforated steel exoskeleton and elevated above the coastal scrub, the four-bedroom house stretches towards the ocean while responding to the conditions of the surrounding landscape.
