Completed in 2005, the four-bedroom residence is one of the Australian architect’s defining works. Its long, elevated form stretches across a 3,973sqm site, projecting toward the ocean while minimising its impact on the fragile dune landscape. Wrapped in a perforated steel exoskeleton, the building responds to its exposed coastal environment through a system of screens, openings and sheltered outdoor spaces that mediate light, wind and views.
The interior is organised along a gallery-like spine connecting living, dining and kitchen spaces before extending to balconies overlooking the surrounding landscape. Reclaimed timber flooring, steel detailing and a substantial Corten steel element bring warmth and weight to the otherwise restrained material palette.
Awarded the RAIA Robin Boyd Award and recognised internationally, the house remains a significant example of Australian residential architecture, demonstrating Godsell’s longstanding interest in climate-responsive design and the relationship between shelter and environment.
The property includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms and parking for two vehicles, moments from the beaches, golf courses and wineries of the Mornington Peninsula.
