A long concrete bar snakes its way through this Vancouver seafood restaurant, which serves freshly shucked oysters with a list of unconventional toppings.

Visitors to Shuckshuck, located on Vancouver’s East Pender Street, will be surprised first by the bar’s minimal interiors, and then by some of its unexpected menu options – including oysters with sour lemon curd.

The dining space is sparsely decorated, with poured concrete floors, exposed columns and pipework, and bare lightbulbs overhead.  The minimalist adornment puts all the attention on a  56-foot-long, bespoke concrete table that winds through the Vancouver restaurant.

Owners Larry Lau and Waylon Sharp are on a mission to let the world know about oysters as a sustainable food option, and so Shuckshuck’s menu is naturally oyster-heavy. Guests can order topped oysters as well as oyster shots – mixed with tequila, sake or soju. There’s also a ‘birthday suit’ oyster option for the purists.
