Cate Blanchett’s long-term Melbourne home is heading to auction

For almost 20 years, Oscar-winning actor Cate Blanchett has owned this modern bolthole in Melbourne’s sought-after Prahran. Now, the Carol star is preparing to part ways with the three-bedroom home, which could more than triple its purchase price when it heads to auction next month.

The Melbourne property is listed with Rae Mano, Jamie Mi, and Ada Taylor of Kay & Burton, and has been refurbed by Alwill Architecture and is bright and airy inside. Its main ground-floor suite opens onto its own veranda, and the living space likewise has sliding glass doors that lead to outdoor space.

Blanchett and her partner, playwright Andrew Upton, purchased the pad in 2006 for AUD$745k – and the white-walled home is a blank canvas for future owners, furnished in stone, polished concrete and stainless steel. It goes under the hammer on 9 March with a guide price of AUD $2.25m-$2.45m.

Perhaps its most covetable feature might be the fact it offers direct access to the nearby Victoria Gardens – a lush, two-hectare space that dates back to 1885.

Back in 2015, Blanchett and Upton previously sold this Sydney property – one of our most clicked properties of the year. The 19th-century Hunters Hill home, known as Bulwarra, had undergone an $8m AUD renovation, also led by Alwill.
