Buyers will either love or loathe this Brooklyn property’s vibrant parsley-green kitchen and dining room. While green shaker-style kitchens have dominated Pinterest in recent years, the Cobble Hill townhouse’s bold pea-green kitchen island and dining room break away from the softer, more subdued shades currently in vogue, instead making an emphatic, vibrant statement.

The Italianate five-storey townhouse at 234 Clinton Street dates from 1883 and was built by architect Fred Lockwood. It was bought in 2020 for $5.25m and was converted into two units, a two-bedroom garden suite and a four-bedroom main home – now for sale via agent Nick Gavin of Compass for $12.995m.

Local design firm MADE renovated the historic property, giving the original mouldings, fireplaces and wooden floorboards a good polish. It’s in the dining room and kitchen where things take a colourful turn: the floors are tiled in a parsley shade by Aït Manos, which continues up onto the kitchen island, a vibrant hit of colour.

Botanical Zuber wallpaper continues the green theme, but to contrast the glossy, bold tiled surfaces, tactile walnut cabinetry and a wood-burning fireplace have been installed on the level, while two oversized windows face over the peaceful, 40-ft-long landscaped back garden.

Pass through the parlour to another colourful feature: the mint green staircase leads up to the primary bedroom, complete with another woodburning fireplace, a walk-in closet and two full bathrooms. One is decked out in blue and green checkered tiles with a green onyx double vanity, and the other in a dark, moody blue tile, both by Aït Manos. A nursery, office and laundry room round out this floor.

Three more bedrooms can be found on the fourth floor alongside a playroom or den, and all have period fireplaces and ample storage, while the top floor of the townhouse home functions as a multi-purpose, skylit studio.

According to the listing, the garden floor can be used as a mother-in-law suite or a completely separate apartment. It has two bedrooms of its own, plus a separate kitchen and laundry.
