Designed by Los Angeles architect Linda Taalman, whose prefabricated iT House system explored lightweight, site-sensitive construction, this off-grid house has come up for sale in Lone Pine, California. Completed in 2020, the two-bedroom residence sits on 2.39 acres beneath the Eastern Sierra, positioned between Tuttle and Diaz Creeks within a natural clearing formed by glacial boulder deposits south of Mount Whitney.

The house combines Bosch aluminium framing, steel decking and large expanses of glazing, opening towards views of the Alabama Hills, Owens Lake and the surrounding mountain ranges. A west-facing deck extends into the landscape, while the main living spaces are oriented towards the Sierra peaks.

Designed for remote living, the property operates on a 20-panel solar array supported by a propane generator, hydronic heating and cooling, a 650ft well and a 1,200-gallon water reserve system.

Interiors are finished with rift-cut white oak panelling, granite and stainless-steel worktops, Leicht cabinetry and Bosch and Miele appliances. A separate three-car garage with its own solar power and wood-pellet stove accompanies the property, which is listed for $1.65 million.
