Hot in every sense of the word, Arizona is getting a special look-in from property hunters and the fast-growing property brokerage Retsy is delivering. This week it has listed a sprawling single-family home in Paradise Valley that showcases the talents of architect Catherine Hayes.

The 560 sq m adobe and stone property sits on an acre of desert landscape with views of Camelback Mountain. With four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, it ‘floats’ over a natural wash that becomes a series of rivulets after it rains, creating a seamless connection with the environment while maintaining an extraordinary level of privacy.

‘Instead of rerouting [the rivulets], I envisioned architecture to embrace them as an intimate and ever-changing landscape surrounding the outdoor spaces,’ Hayes has said. ‘The living, dining and kitchen spaces also flow off the gallery foyer, while each bedroom opens to its own tranquil lawn area that is an oasis foreground to the mountain views.’

The communal spaces incorporate what Hayes calls Mondrian windows, framing the mountain vistas like still life. She also took inspiration from the Chagall National Museum in Nice, France, with a door in art glass, strategic skylights and Brazilian cherrywood floors that complement natural limestone walls. Hayes oriented the entire structure to maximise the mountain vistas from every room.

Those include a chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances, a great room with a dramatic domed ceiling above a stone fireplace and an owner’s suite with two glass walls. The property also features a spa, yoga studio and negative-edge pool that appears to merge with the horizon. Gardens of native plants and cacti blur the boundaries of the property.

The Arizona home is currently listed for $5.93m with Retsy agent Sandra Gaare.
