Seoul’s newest AVANT+ Bakery combines functionalism with French flair

Korean practice Oftn Studio embraces minimal design with a hint of European flair at this Euljiro bakery – the latest AVANT+ outpost to open in Seoul.

The neighbourhood bakery joins branches in Gangnam, Seongdong and Yongsan, all embracing a similarly pared-back aesthetic. AVANT+’s Eujiro bakery is located on the ground floor of a bank’s headquarters, which feels like a fitting container for its strikingly functional appearance.

Clean lines and industrial materials dominate the glass-enclosed space, with concrete furniture, display stands, and a stainless steel serving counter. Oftn Studio looked to European architecture when laying out the bakery, which evokes the kinds of public squares found on the continent.

Minimal interiors are punctuated by patterns in the form of fluted concrete panels and grid-patterned ceilings – and there’s a nod to AVANT+’s French cuisine via the bentwood cafe chairs.
