Property of the week: a converted waterworks in the UK’s Shropshire

Old meets new inside this converted waterworks, which sits on the banks of the River Severn, just outside of Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

Traces of the building’s former life can be read in the living room, with its soaring double-height ceiling and curving gallery level that skirts the top of the room.

New skylights flood the formerly industrial volume with light, while arched windows and bi-folding glass doors open out onto the Shropshire home’s riverfront garden.

The kitchen and dining room have access to a second decked area of the garden, while four bedrooms can be found upstairs in the converted waterworks – on the market via The Modern House for £750,000.

Each bedroom has enormous arched windows, while the fourth bedroom – currently used as a home studio space – has porthole windows, painted brick walls and a steel trussed roof. A second office has been secreted behind the main living room, and has a spiral staircase that leads to mezzanine storage.

The Waterworks is surrounded by gardens that run down to the river and comes with its own jetty.
