Ambient artist Julianna Barwick’s moody music video ‘Nebula’ casts a haunting glow over architect Philip Johnson’s seminal Glass House.

Director Derrick Belcham set up a light installation within the 1949 house to play with shadows in the Connecticut space. Making use of its clear glass exterior to capture the structure at night, ‘Nebula’ becomes an experiment in chiaroscuro, constantly exploring the relationship between light and dark.

Johnson drew inspiration from mentor Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House for the design of the Glass House. It was the first of 14 structures Johnson would build on a 47-acre estate he bought for himself in New Canaan, an area that quickly became a haven for Modernist homes.
