Hitchcock house from ‘The Birds’ is for sale in California

Alfred Hitchcock fans will recognise the town of Bodega, California as the real-life setting of his cult film, The Birds. Now, the property next door to its iconic schoolhouse has gone on sale for $1.1m via Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty.

The Victorian building echoes the Italianate style of the nearby schoolhouse, known as Potter School House. In Hitchcock’s 1963 horror classic, Tippi Hedren’s character and a crowd of screaming schoolchildren escape from the clapboard building as birds attack them.

Painted wooden interiors and stripped flooring feature across the three-bedroom Californian property, which has rows of tall sash windows looking out onto the schoolhouse and St Teresa of Avila Church, immortalized in both The Birds and Ansel Adams’ photography. There’s also a hot tub in the garden.

Interiors would make for an exciting renovation project, with great light throughout, especially in the sunroom. Bodega village is located in Sonoma County – part of Northern California’s Sonoma Valley wine region – and is close to the Pacific coast.
