Cape Town’s Gorgeous George is a boutique hotel with attitude

Heritage architecture meets contemporary design

The new kid on the block in Cape Town’s city centre lives up to its name – Gorgeous George is a celebration of local design and luxe but lighthearted lifestyle underpinned by an irreverent and playful attitude. While it doesn’t take itself too seriously, its style cred has been noted by Design Hotels (it’s the first in Cape Town to boast this title).

Designed by Studio A, a young and up-and-coming firm known for its hospitality spaces, the boutique hotel showcases an equally youthful spirit in its décor. This is not at the cost of comfort, however; rooms – which start from around €219 per night – are beautifully and eclectically appointed.

It’s on the top floor where the hotel really gets into stride though. Gorgeous George’s rooftop bar, restaurant and pool deck is an intimate and highly social space filled with eye candy in the form of designer furniture and a jungle of plants.

Inside, a library-style lounge and dining area hosts guests and visitors alike, while outside a mixed array of seating and the adjacent pool deck makes the perfect venue for sundowners. Surrounded on all sides by beautiful buildings and overlooking the city, it’s a true urban oasis.
