The house from ‘Sex Education’ is for sale

The striking Norwegian chalet has stunning views of the Wye Valley

Fans of Netflix hit Sex Education will recognise this expansive Herefordshire property as the dreamy home of Jean and Otis.

The Chalet dates from 1912 and is Norwegian in style, designed as a salmon fishing lodge that was originally exhibited at the Ideal Homes exhibition that year in London. The five-bedroom home is located outside the village of Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley and underwent a complete renovation after being purchased by the current owner in 2002. They extended it to a Norwegian design, adding a dining room and conservatory.

It also had its wiring and plumbing replaced, and a new, painted wooden kitchen installed. In the TV show, Jean (played by Gillian Anderson) hires Swedish plumber-turned-boyfriend Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt) to fix her leaky sink.

Living spaces expand across three floors, with each room freshly decorated, with wood and stone floors and stripped pitch pine doors. There are no less than five log-burning stoves on the ground floor, adding to its rustic Nordic charm, with rooms fanning off a central hallway and a gallery landing.

Knight Frank is listing the Ross-on-Wye home with a guide price of £1.5m. It comes with 4.52 acres of grounds, including a stone outbuilding, two greenhouses, kitchen gardens, and flower beds. It also boasts expansive views of the Wye Gorge, especially from its timber terraces, and is enveloped by woodland, offering total privacy.

And if you’re looking for a future project, The Chalet is adjacent to an old chapel at the top of the driveway, away from the house. It’s available to buy via separate negotiation.
