Robuchon takes over an elegant city block in Monaco

Three new openings offer day-to-night dining

Any Joël Robuchon opening is a major event in the world of hospitality. Three at once is a landmark event. And so it was last month that the French culinary star’s enduring company launched a trio of destinations in Monaco. In December, Robuchon Monaco, Petit Café Robuchon and Deli Robuchon opened on popular Avenue Saint-Laurent, overlooking the city-state’s coastal promenade, sharing the same sunny interiors.

The basis for the three locations is a graphic herringbone marble floor in veined greens and whites, with jade-green accents and lush moss-coloured upholsteries by Schumacher and Bevillacqua, imagined by London designer Francis Sultana, well known for his liberal use of greens. Sultana looked to designers like Barovier & Toso for Murano-glass lighting and to Ginori 1735 for hand-blown glassware and tableware. His scheme for Le Petit Café focuses on light alfresco dining on the road-side terrace, from a long cushioned banquette and rattan seating. The deli takes the theme a step further, with panels of eglomisé glass mirrors and a hand-painted floral mural along the back wall. Guests can sit along a buffet by a fluted deli counter loaded with breakfast pastries and snacks or in intimate banquettes.

The main bistro is helmed by Ducasse alum Frederic Garnier, who reinterprets Robuchon’s classic gastronomy for a new generation of Monégasques. Seasonal dishes match the rousing, lively flavour of the surroundings, amped up with wines and cocktails from the plentiful cellar and wood-panelled bar. Guests can sit in tailored sofas beneath a frescoed ceiling with diaphanous curtains for privacy or lounge out on the terrace to enjoy the clement Mediterranean climate. Giant potted ferns indoors and out make the three new arrivals a fresh, fragrant destination for the entire day.
