Own a serene Andrew Trotter-designed Puglian hideaway

The restored 17th-century palazzo is a slice of rural idyll and contemporary design in the heart of Soleto

Andrew Trotter has left an indelible mark on Italy, transforming crumbling buildings and creating contemporary villas that reflect his studio’s sensitive, context-driven approach. Casa Soleto in Puglia is a rare opportunity to purchase one of Studio Andrew Trotter’s carefully restored historic homes—a 17th-century palazzo reimagined with restraint, texture, and minimalist flair.

Trotter collaborated with Marcelo Martínez on Casa Soleto, which is for sale via Aucoot for £1m. Located in the historic centre of Soleto – a sleepy, Griko-speaking town in Lecce – the palazzo blends period features with contemporary design interventions. Lime-washed walls and vaulted ceilings provide a framework for salvaged and antique furniture, back-dropped by Trotter’s signature palette of tactile natural materials and reclaimed finishes.

In the kitchen, original cabinetry has been sensitively restored with new, handmade joinery to match. The old chapel has been transformed into a dining room, best enjoyed by candlelight, with the 18th-century refectory table now a functional conversation point. Elsewhere on the ground floor, another 400-year-old chapel is now a media room with a built-in four-metre-long sofa that converts into twin guest beds.

Speaking of bedrooms, four are accessed from the courtyard staircase, including a master suite with a terrace and a cast-iron tub, and the Puglian property sleeps nine people in total.

And while Trotter and Martínez have taken pains to retain as much of the original character as possible, right down to the floors, the house has also been discreetly equipped with all the modern comforts you’d need. There’s air-conditioning in every room, a BOSE sound system, TV, a fully equipped kitchen with ILVE range, dishwasher, espresso machine, and a concealed washer-dryer.

Casa Soleto has been operating as a successful holiday let and film location. It’s offered for sale fully furnished as a turn-key home or holiday let. See Aucoot for more.

Beyond Puglia, Studio Andrew Trotter has been busy working on Utah’s Pala Zion architectural project, where he’s designed the Paréa hotel and is leading a team of hand-picked architects to create individual villas for the accompanying Pala housing development.
