Hand-painted graphics add some Maison Kitsuné style to this 1930s building in Silver Lake – now a store and café for the cult music and clothes label.

The Sunset Boulevard outpost is the latest addition to the brand’s growing collection of cafes across the globe, which already occupy prime spots in cities including New York, Paris, London and Beijing. The Silver Lake opening is the brand’s first in Los Angeles, and to celebrate, Maison Kitsuné’s design team has created vintage-inflected interiors using wood, stainless steel and orange furniture.

The highlight is the wall mural created by San Francisco artist Jeffrey Sincich, which depicts a retro-style grocery store and echoes the painted signage outside. Visitors can start next store, at Maison Kitsuné, to stock up on merch and apparel before grabbing an espresso and pastry from Café Kistuné, whose menu mixes French and Asian flavours.

The LA cafe switches to a beer and wine bar in the evening and cranks up the music on its Rotel sound system.
