When Jackie Kai Ellis renovated an apartment overlooking Canal Saint-Martin, she wasn’t setting out to create a design destination. The Canadian creative — known for founding Vancouver’s Beaucoup Bakery & Café and later writing a bestselling memoir — was creating a home in Paris.

The result was APT La Fayette, a two-bedroom apartment in the city’s 10th arrondissement that has since appeared on magazine covers and in publications including Architectural Digest, Apartment Therapy, House & Home and Real Living Australia.

Set within a Haussmann-era building, the apartment retains its original fireplaces, mouldings and herringbone floors, while a renovation led by Ellis introduced a marble kitchen, custom joinery and a restrained palette of vintage furniture and natural materials. Large windows overlook Canal Saint-Martin, bringing light into rooms that are shaped as much by the building’s history as the renovation itself.

Over the past few years, APT La Fayette has become one of Ellis’s most recognised projects, earning her a following well beyond the worlds of publishing, food and design. Now, the apartment is being offered for sale for the first time with price on application. Interested buyers can contact Malindi Pender via Paris Living.
