Inside The Woods House – a contemporary Palm Springs escape by Woods + Dangaran

Its patinated brass skin mimics the desert

Desert vistas are on offer at this contemporary modernist home, rooted in its arid setting and surrounded by boulders and arroyo above Palm Springs.

The Woods House was completed in 2021 by Woods + Dangaran. According to the Los Angeles firm, ‘it celebrates and elevates the tenets of desert modernism’, blending classic mcm flourishes with modern finishes.

Its horizon-hugging layout helps preserves the existing desert site. Living spaces are set across a single storey, with shared areas at one end of the 3,800 sq ft home and four bedrooms at the other. An enclosed atrium connects the two wings physically.

Interiors use a palette of earth-tone plaster, concrete, exposed brick and an assemblage of wooden furniture – tones drawn directly from the desert. Indoor planting also celebrates native species.

Outside, glass walls are broken up by patinated brass panels that mirror the colours of the surrounding mountains and deserts landcape and shimmer in the light. An outdoor dining area, deck, pool, spa, fireplace, and lounge envelop the California property offering comprehensive, entertaining options for guests and residents.

The Woods House is for sale via The Agency for $5,750,010.
