Fabric nightclub will open its doors to clubbers once more, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced on Twitter.

Owners of the legendary music venue have struck a deal with Islington Council and the Metropolitan Police, agreeing to new operating procedures, including banning anyone under the age of 19.

The club closed this summer when its licence was revoked following the deaths of two teenagers after taking drugs at the nightspot.

As part of the new terms, specialist roles will be created to prevent drugs entering the club, and to help anyone showing signs of illness inside. Meanwhile, anyone found in possession of drugs, or who attempts to deal drugs, will be banned from the club for life.

Ranjit Bhose said on behalf of the council: ‘What the council has been concerned with is whether Fabric can operate with a true zero tolerance towards drugs.

‘We are now satisfied revocation of the licence is not necessary. Fabric has accepted procedure for searching and drug dealing within the club were not sufficient. It has now accepted 38 new conditions as well as its 155-page operating manual. The authority is satisfied Fabric understands what has to be done.’

Fabric said in a statement: ‘We are hugely thankful to be able to confirm the news that we have won our licence back.’

The club added: ‘So many different people stepped up to put their voices to our cause, artists from all corners of the music community, fellow promoters who have put on huge events from us and clubbers from around the world who all united behind us.’

Fabric’s reopening date is yet to be confirmed.
