Do the timewarp at this retro 1970s home in Wales

‘Cocktail party’ glamour lives on at this modernist house in Wales by Ifan Prys Edwards, which has pristine 1970s interiors.

A curved kitchen breakfast bar, mirrored backdrops, and wooden tongue-and-groove ceilings are original to the colourful Merthyr Tydfil home, on sale for £550,00 via The Modern House.

Local architect Prys Edwards built the time-capsule house in 1971 for its current owner, who requested ‘a glamorous home for entertaining’. It has a geometric brick form with a reverse layout. Its stilted, cantilevered top floor contains its living spaces and two of its four bedrooms.

In the south Wales property, a green glass block wall divides living spaces and glows when illuminated in the sunlight via the kitchen. Meanwhile, the avocado kitchen has retro tiles and pristine Formica cabinetry – which looks as good as new – and steps down to the garden.

A wall of pinkish mosaic glass tiles runs behind the living room cocktail bar, complete with original glassware. The baby blue bathroom suite has a reflective copper backdrop, while other highlights include a lemon shower room and ribbons of clerestory windows.

Its interiors retain an original, property-wide, built-in sound and intercom systems (cutting edge in its day) and handmade patterned Italian carpets. Its upper floor living spaces have wide windows to make most of the elevated views and are accessed via an open tread spiral staircase.
