A custom ‘yurt’ in Upstate New York asks for $1.15m

If you’ve ever wondered what a $1.15m ‘yurt’ would look like, here’s your answer.

The unusual New York property is located in Poughquag, Dutchess County, and was custom-designed in 2017 for wellness guru Dr Jamé Heskett, author of The Well Path, and her three children. It sits on a patch of 37.5 acres, about a mile away from the Appalachian Trail, encircled by woodland.

The custom  2,621 sq ft yurt home is the handiwork of Home Enrichment Company and is actually two large cedar yurts that are connected by a curved volume – a design conceived by architect Matthew Smith.

The larger ‘yurt’ houses the living room and a chef’s kitchen with marble counters, a pantry, double wall ovens and a handmade butcher block island. Up the stairs is a sleeping loft with an ensuite and a skylight for star gazing.

Two more bedrooms, three bathrooms, a fully finished basement and an in-ground saltwater pool round out the offering, and the house has underground electrics, a well and a septic system.

Nearby Pawling Metro-North station offers a direct link to the city, while Poughkeepsie, Millbrook and Kent are all a short drive away.

Agent Christina Weiss of Houlihan Lawrence holds the listing.
