Barcelona restaurant Compartir emphasises the city’s links with the sea

There’s a decidedly nautical feel at Barcelona’s Compartir, which uses rich blues and rattan ‘sails’ to create a seaside feel indoors.

El Equipo Creativo designed the space, which is located in the city’s Eixample district and is the second Compartir to open in Spain – with the first established in the coastal town of Cadaqués. The studio installed three ‘blue windows’ in the restaurant, collaborating with a different local artist to create a textile, sculptural and pictorial interpretation for each. The sea-coloured palette is picked up elsewhere at Compartir in the form of a bright blue door.

The maritime ambience doesn’t end there, however, with El Equipo Creativo installing curved mirrors and rattan dividers designed to bring to mind sail-covered seascapes – reminiscent of those found in Compartir’s first home near the bay of Cadaqués. Glossy terracotta tiles, slate stone and arrangements of dried flowers contrast the space.

Materials were sourced locally, with objects made by local businesses to reduce the carbon cost of transport.
